  1. Delve Work-Experience Program by Delta Institute

The Delve Work-Experience Program by Delta Institute offers high school students a structured virtual work-experience designed to provide real-world professional experience with global medical companies like NHS, The Vein Institute, and Allegheny Health Network. You’ll engage in project-based work that simulates an actual workplace environment, allowing you to develop practical skills. 

Throughout the work-experience, you’ll receive guidance and mentorship from industry professionals, gaining insight into workplace expectations, teamwork, and problem-solving. Georgetown’s Medical Immersion Academy is a 3-week program that takes place in the summer. During the program, you explore topics such as cell biology, pathology, immunology, cardiology, endocrinology, physical examinations, wound care, and medical careers in a university setting under the guidance of faculty, staff, and students.  

By the end of the program, you receive a certificate of participation, and have a completed research-based poster tied to one of the themes from the program. You also gain a structured understanding of how different areas of medicine connect.

Deepen is an 8-week one-on-one mentorship program for high school students who want to build a specialized project in a field of their interest, including medicine and healthcare. During the program, you work directly with an expert mentor, spend 20 hours in personalized mentorship and skill development, and move through a project timeline that ends with a final presentation and expert review. 

By the end of the program, you build an industry-relevant project in medicine, gain hands-on experience solving real-world challenges, and receive a strong recommendation letter tied to what you built. If you want to shape your project around healthcare, biology, psychology, or another medicine-related topic, Deepen gives you flexibility to customize it and go deep into a specific topic as compared to shorter summer programs.

  1. Health Careers Institute by Midwestern University

Midwestern University’s Health Careers Institute is a free 5-day hands-on program held on the Glendale, Arizona campus in the summer. The program is designed for current high school juniors and seniors who are interested in gaining exposure to a wide range of health professions. The program offers a short, but intensive format and students are involved in a full-day schedule, giving them a strong sense of the healthcare environment.

Eligibility: You must be a current high school junior or senior and attend all five days

  1. Summer Science Internship Program by the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford

UIC’s Summer Science Internship Program is a medical and biomedical research internship that runs from June to August. During the internship, you work over two months in a biomedical research setting. The program also includes orientation, training, and a final science forum. 

As part of the program, you receive career-building training, and work on a final project through oral presentations and scientific posters. You also build experience with resume preparation, interviewing, leadership, teamwork, and scientific communication while working in a medical-college research setting.

Delta Launch’s AI Immersive program is designed for students who want structured and tangible project outcomes. As part of the 12-week program, you work 1:1 with a mentor from top companies such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and more to build a hands-on, real-world project in the field of AI at the intersection of a field of your interest. Students have previously worked on AI x Medicine projects such as building a pneumonia detection model, protein structure prediction visualizer, medical image diagnosis assistant, and more. 

This program is a great fit for students looking to explore the intersectionality of AI and healthcare/medicine, while building a strong project to showcase on college applications. As part of the program, students receive guidance, regular feedback, and a recommendation letter from their mentor.

  1. Summer Enrichment Program by Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center

Texas Tech’s Summer Enrichment Program is a one-week medical program held in June. As part of the program, you learn medical terminology, partake in science courses in chemistry or anatomy, undergo training in suture clinic, ultrasound, basic life support, physical exam practice, tours of TTUHSC facilities, volunteering, and communication. 

After finishing the program, you come out with a broad introduction to medicine that combines hands-on activities with exposure to medical school preparation. You also gain experience with clinical-style skills and healthcare environments early, which can help you decide whether you want a more advanced medical program later on.

UConn’s High School Student Research Apprentice Program is a five-week summer program that takes place in June. During the program, you work in basic science or in a clinical laboratory at UConn Health or Central Connecticut State University. The program is designed for high school juniors interested in medicine, dental medicine, or biomedical research. 

As part of the program, you gain research experience in a medical or biomedical setting and earn a stipend. Given that the program is tied directly to laboratory work, it gives you a stronger research outcome than a general career-exploration camp.

Horizons in Medicine is a month-long summer program at Wright State for students entering their junior or senior year of high school. During the program, you learn medical terminology and core concepts from subjects such as biochemistry, anatomy, histology, and pharmacology, and spend afternoons shadowing medical professionals in hospitals, community clinics, and other clinical sites. 

Upon completion, you come out with a group research paper or a medically related project completed with a small team under the direction of a Wright State medical student. This program gives you both shadowing exposure and a final academic or project-based outcome.
